Case Study - Sunflowers Children’s Centre & Millie’s Mark

First Aid Training for Nurseries, Schools and Pre-Schools

JWP Training have helped numerous Nurseries, Schools and Pre-Schools in achieving excellence in their First Aid Training within their setting.

This Case Study will highlight an example of how we help Sunflowers Children's Centre achieve their Millie’s Mark Accreditation.

Sunflower Children’s Centre

Sunflowers Children’s Centre are a Stimulating, bright learning environment with highly qualified staff. Sunflower Children’s Centre opened in 2002. They have grown to include parents’ needs by providing flexible sessions for parents who have to work a shift pattern i.e. sessions do not have to be the same days/times each week.

JWP Training currently deliver First Aid Training for Sunflower’s Children’s Centre for their staff and their children. This training allows them to meet the requirements of the Millie’s Mark accreditation.

Louisa from Sunflower’s;

“We have used JWP training since 2017 for our child and adult first aid training and consider them to be a part of our Sunflower Family!
We strongly believe that first aid is a vital skill for ALL our staff which is why we consistently achieve Millie's Mark for First Aid Excellence. This is something that JWP actively support us with. Their trainers are not only highly competent in their field but are also friendly, conscientious and make the training enjoyable and most importantly memorable.
JWP do not stop there, they also deliver regular first aid sessions to our Pre School children as we believe you are never to young to learn. It is well adapted for a younger audience and we know children enjoy and benefit from it.
Recently, due to the sad passing of one of our dear colleagues JWP have supported us in obtaining a AED and cabinet.  This will soon have pride of place at the centre for the community to use if necessary.
Thank you, John and Team, for everything you have and continue to do for us.”

What is the Millie’s Mark Accreditation?

Millie’s Mark is the gold standard in paediatric first aid for childcare providers.

Millie's legacy

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson, who died after choking on food at a nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old.

Millie’s parents, Dan and Joanne Thompson, founded Millie’s Trust and have successfully campaigned for changes to first aid requirements for childcare providers.

"Millie’s Mark is our gorgeous daughter’s legacy, and to see the development of a voluntary scheme mark introduced into nurseries is an achievement not just for us, but for parents everywhere. We put our children into the hands of childcarers and we expect they will be cared for in the best possible way. A setting achieving Millie’s Mark is an exceptional achievement for not only the nursery but for the children and the parents too.

The achievement of the mark acknowledges that staff would be confident in maybe one day saving a child’s life if they needed to. Confidence is a key factor in the administration of first aid and Millie’s Mark allows nurseries to feel confident in their own team.

How can JWP Training help with your First Aid Provision in you setting?

  1. First Aid Training for your Staff. We are able to offer in-house training at your setting, at a time and place of your convenience. We can also offer training at our Venue so you can send staff out at different times, which won’t affect your staffing levels at your setting.

  2. First Aid Training for your children. We are able to offer training suitable for your children at your setting. Using props and age related activities we are able to teach First Aid to Children from the age of 3. This basic first aid knowledge can help develop a child’s confidence in knowing when to call 999, or when and how to use a plaster or bandage.

  3. First Aid Training for your Parents. We are able to offer informative, short sessions to help parents feel confident in emergency first aid situations at home or when they are out and about. The sessions include choking, bleeding, CPR and other crucial aspects of First Aid Training.

Would you like to discuss your training requirement further with our team?
